WelcomeWelcome to Metamora Country Store. We are Marc and Rachel Stringer, the proprietors. Our goal is to bring you the things you need for your home and for your family. Things to keep Americana, and fond memories, for the present. And to help you keep the simple, hospitable country home alive and well, to be enjoyed by all. ![]() About Our StoreRachel had a vision of owning and operating an old-fashioned country store like those she enjoyed while growing up in Franklin County.
Marc was raised in New England and grew up shopping in stores just like this, and also had the dream for a Country Store to bring these simple pleasures and practical solutions to others.
In July 2000 we found the perfect building for us, in the perfect setting: Metamora Indiana. Metamora had always been a favorite of Rachel's, as it has been for generations of Hoosiers, Ohioans, and Kentuckians. The building had been erected in 1974 from materials salvaged from a 19th century barn in nearby Brookville, including the 12 inch squared oak logs it sits on. Prior to our ownership it was called "The Hoosier Welcome" by Mike Johnson and other previous owners, and was known best for serving coffee, specialty meats, Amish cheese, and spices. We renovated, expanded, and opened as Yankee Trader in June 2001. Ever since our regular customers have enjoyed the ever-changing departments and merchandise as we regularly freshen our goods and arrangements. This year we have re-named the business the Metamora Country Store - after our true calling.
Please write us and let us know how we can serve you, order a catalog, or let us know what you haven't been able to find anywhere else. Maybe we can help you. Things to do in Metamora . . .
